Counterfeit Tools Are Putting Critical Systems at Risk

Date Posted: 21/05/2026

Daniels Manufacturing Corporation® (DMC®) is aware that several tool manufacturers and resellers are advertising knockoff crimp tools as meeting military specifications (Mil-Spec). These misleading and unqualified tools pose significant risks to the aerospace community, the DOD, and maintainers of electrical wiring interconnect systems.

Despite prior warnings, unauthorized marketplaces such as Walmart.com, Alibaba, eBay, Grainger, Allied, and Graybar continue to distribute these knockoff tools, and the number of manufacturers falsely claiming Mil-Spec compliance continues to grow.

Many of these manufacturers mark their tools in ways that wrongly imply qualification to AS22520 and other standards. Some knockoffs bear DMC part numbers and closely resemble genuine DMC-qualified products listed on the Qualified Products Database (QPD) and Qualified Products List (QPL).

Recently, we were made aware that non-qualified M22520 dies are being marked with MIL part numbers. These products often appear almost identical to genuine DMC-qualified tools, but they are not approved or qualified under MIL-DTL-22520, AS81969, or other applicable specifications.

If you suspect that you have encountered or purchased a knockoff item, please contact us immediately at: 407-855-6161 or dmc@dmctools.com. Any information you can provide will help our efforts to maintain the integrity and safety of Mil-Spec tooling throughout the industry.

The WA23B is Now Mil-Spec Qualified

Date Posted: 01/04/2026

Daniels Manufacturing Corporation® announces the full qualification of its WA23B (M22520/23-01), engineered with speed and precision for high-production military, defense, and commercial applications. The WA23B is a faster, mil-spec qualified alternative to WA23 and Rennsteig Pico Series 400 crimp tools.

The AS22520/23 qualification validates compliance with military-grade performance criteria while delivering twice the speed of the WA23 and improved ergonomics. Engineered to support high-mix, high-volume production facilities, the tool crimps 8 – 4/0 AWG machined contacts, uninsulated terminals, and uninsulated splices. In addition, the WA23B simplifies integration with backwards compatibility, a dedicated gaging state, and single‑power‑source operation.

The WA23B supports mission‑critical wire harness applications across ships, ground vehicles, aerospace platforms, and more. WA23B users see instant improvements in workflow efficiency while upholding quality standards. “[The WA23-B] has allowed us to greatly increase throughput due to its speed and reliability. We are currently […] replacing all of our crimpers with the new WA23B,” adds Brett G., Manufacturing Engineer at Southwire Company, LLC.

How to Determine if a Tool is Serviceable

DMC Tools have created a quick guide to help customers identify which tools are serviceable and which are legacy items no longer accepted for calibration or repair. This helps prevent unnecessary returns and ensures only eligible tools are sent in. Distributors can share this resource to streamline the service process and provide clear guidance to customers.

Notice of Supersessions of Legacy I/R Tools

DMC Tools I/R tooling portfolio is being simplified and modernized in alignment with the latest SAE- AS81969 standards. This effort focuses on consolidating legacy part numbers, maintaining full backward compatibility with existing connector systems, and transitioning away from low-volume tools in favor of current, Mil-Spec qualified equivalents. As part of this change, commercial I/R part numbers will be gradually superseded by QPL-qualified versions.

Are you using UNQUALIFIED Tools

Daniels Manufacturing Corporation (DMC) has become aware of knockoff Mil-Spec crimp tools advertised by non-qualified and unauthorized sources. This situation is potentially hazardous for the entire aerospace community, DOD, and maintainers of electrical wiring interconnect systems.

In addition to the previously mentioned marketplaces that are known to be selling these knockoff Mil-Spec crimp tools we are now aware these tools are also being sold on Walmart.com, Alibaba, eBay, Grainger, Allied, and Graybar.

Jonard Tools, a retailer and manufacturer based out of New York, USA has been identified as producing and selling these tools as M22520/1-01 Military Grade Precision Crimpers. Though many of these knockoffs bear the M22520 & M81969 Mil-Spec number, DMC logo, DMC part numbers, DMC CAGE code (11851) and appear almost identical to genuine DMC-qualified products as listed on the Qualified Products Database (QPD) and Qualified Products List (QPL) it is essential to know that these counterfeit products are not approved or qualified under MIL DTL 22520 or AS81969 and other specifications that apply.
